Supply of Reclamation Sand in the Philippines

The Philippines, being an archipelagic nation located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, has hundreds of volcanoes. One of the recent massive volcanic eruptions was Mount Pinatubo which happened in 1991. Mount Pinatubo belongs to the Zambales mountains southwest of the massive Cordillera mountains in Luzon island. When Mount Pinatubo erupted in 1991, it ejected approximately 7.5 billion tons of volcanic sand. Volcanic sand is proven to be an excellent backfill material for reclamation projects. Thus, Minda Global Trading Corporation is currently sourcing a substantial portion of its supply of reclamation sand from the volcanic sand of Mount Pinatubo.

Supply of Construction Sand in the Philippines

The Philippines, being an archipelagic nation with more than 7,100 islands is abundant of construction raw materials such as construction sand and reclamation sand either from natural sources and crushed rock sand. However, given the huge demand of construction sand due to construction boom and infrastructure development in the Philippines, many construction companies sourced the sand from crushed rock sands and several of them have quarry sites.

Furthermore, given the depleting sources of river sand and strict environmental guidelines in the Philippines, many construction companies are now using crushed rock sand as alternative to the river sand. Crushed mountain rock sand has surfaced as a viable alternative to natural river sand and is being now used commonly in the Philippines as fine aggregate in concrete. It is manufactured by crushing the quarried mountain stone to a size that will completely pass through 4.75 mm filter standard.
